Daily Planner 12/17/2008

6:00 AM: Alarm goes off

6:05 AM: Walk the dog

6:15 AM: Put on Coffee/Make breakfast

6:43 AM: Wake the kids

6:50 AM: Breakfast; Pack lunches

7:10 AM: Shower

7:47 AM: Kiss husband/Rush kids out the door/Panic

8:07 AM: Lake getting kids to school

8:30 AM: Morning meeting

9:00 AM: Conference call

10:00AM: File HR reports

10:51 AM: Call in prescription refills

11:00 AM: Receive phone call from oldest spawn—faking sick

11:08 AM: Back to work

12:00 PM: Business lunch; Get ranch dressing on linen skirt/Hope no one @ office thinks it’s semen

1:15 PM: Change into spare skirt suite

1:20 PM: Back to work

1:35 PM: Call corporate/Listen to bureaucratic bullshit

3:00 PM: Approve expense reports

4:45 PM: Receive call from husband—working late

4:52 PM: Call sitter/Offer to pay overtime

6:00 PM: Leave the office

6:05 PM: Call in takeout order

6:15 PM: Pick up dry cleaning/Drop off stained suit

6:42 PM: Stop at Chinese restaurant; Pick up moo goo gai pan, egg rolls, hot and sour soup/Forget to ask for that orange sauce

7:00 PM: Stuck in traffic/worry dinner will get cold

7:14 PM: Arrive at husbands office

7:19 PM: Find him fucking the receptionist

7:20 PM: Dump $23.46 worth of food on husbands head

7:22 PM: Exhibit knowledge of vulgar words in two languages

Memo: Call lawyer and OB/GYN in the AM. Kill husband if he contracted/passed on STD

  1. The form I chose was a daily planner, which required the story to be written in shorthand and fragments. I liked it because it forced me to flesh out a story without the option of adjectives and adverbs.

  2. Yep. I think it's fun. We kind of see the husband thing coming, maybe because of the familiarity of the situation. So, while this character's routine can still be interesting, you might consider some more unique moments. The bit about the semen seems to suggest the potential for suspicion about her lunch partner, which is interesting, but doesn't really lead to anything, so maybe there's more to be done with that. Maybe she, too, has someone on the side.
